Free Download Of SCTV, Volume 1 - Network 90 Online

At long last, SCTV is on the air… or at least on DVD! While it never reached the ratings heights or pop culture cachet of Saturday Night Live, SCTV did garner critical buzz and a devoted cult following. As with the Python boys, the ensemble members, and the characters they created to populate the fictional Melonville TV network, are revered in hipper comedy circles. In this respect, SCTV is Letterman to SNL’s Leno. This essential five-disc set collects the first nine episodes of the series’ Network 90 incarnation, which brightened NBC’s Friday late-night lineup in 1981. While original cast member Harold Ramis had since left the show, and Martin Short would join the following year, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, and Dave Thomas were SCTV’s definitive ensemble (SNL-bound Robin Duke and Tony Rosato, we hardly knew ye). These inaugural episodes are comprised mostly of “the golden classics” (so dubbed by Flahrety’s wheelchair-bound station manager Guy Caballero) linked by some new material. Included are such series benchmarks as “The Great White North” segments, featuring Moranis and Thomas as the stereotypically Canadian, parka-wearing, beer-swilling McKenzie brothers; “Play It Again, Bob,” starring Moranis as Woody Allen and Thomas as Bob Hope; the ill-fated made-for-SCTV “Polynesiantown” starring Candy’s Johnny LaRu; “The Sammy Maudlin Show,” starring Joe Flahrety as the most sincerely insincere talk show host, with O’Hara as Lola “I want to bear your children” Heatherton, and “Indira,” with Andrea Martin in her signature Evita spoof.

And that’s just on disc 1! SCTV could parody Leave It to Beaver and Fantasy Island with the best of them, but anticipating the future Ben Stiller Show, its genius lay in its show business savvy to subvert television and movie convention. When Levy’s comedian Bobby Bittman arrives on a talk show, he brings “bloopers” from his congressional testimony. And you don’t need to have seen The Oscar to appreciate The Nobel, but it certainly helps. The price is steep, but don’t be a hoser. This is the comedy release of the year. And it blows up real good. –Donald Liebenson

OK. If you like Rick Moranis, you’re going to love this movie. I’ve been a fan for a long time, and I’ve seen SCTV, Volume 1 - Network 90 a lot. I never get tired of it. Have you seen it? If you click the image above you can learn how you can watch it now, or any time.

This is a great movie with Richard Gere, Kim Basinger, Uma Thurman, Eric Roberts, Paul Guilfoyle (II)

Basically it’s about:
This film, which again pairs Richard Gere and Kim Basinger (who starred in 1986’s No Mercy), offers up elements of classic noir: a hapless man becomes intimately involved with a beautiful blonde who may or may not be who or what she appears to be. Dedicated psychiatrist Isaac Barr (Gere) reluctantly, and then more obsessively, becomes involved with Heather Evans (Basinger), the sister of his patient, Diana Baylor (Uma Thurman). Evans is unhappily married to a gangster (appropriately played by a muscular and menacing Eric Roberts in a trademark role). Gere and Basinger make a credible, if dangerous couple, and Thurman delivers a subtle, understated performance and demonstrates her range and potential.

The thriller is appropriately shot in gorgeous San Francisco, where the literal and figurative curving and hilly roads wind throughout. Credit legendary art director Dean Tavoularis for some amazing sets and scenes, notably the elegantly cavernous restaurant where Evans and her husband have a fateful dinner.

This film is, in a way, glossy director Phil Joanou’s Hitchcockian tribute–as a climactic lighthouse scene best demonstrates. Final Analysis doesn’t offer an intimate look at its characters, but a beautifully stylized one, moody and gloomy. The intricate plot experiments with the device of “pathological intoxication,” in which the subject completely loses control after drinking alcohol. And this doesn’t mean a conventional ugly drunk; it means a frightening psychotic. Good and evil, hope and despair, beauty and repulsion are often juxtaposed in the film’s complex world. –N.F. Mendoza

Final Analysis is awesome. I’ve probably seen it 20 times, and I never get tired of it. Have you seen it? If you click the image above you can learn how you can watch it now, or any time.

This is a great movie! Probably one of my favorites. Paul Dobson does a great job, If you’re a fan, and you haven’t seen this movie - watch it now!

Don’t know what it’s about?

This dark fantasy-adventure borrows elements from Evangelion and Gasaraki and presents them in the style of Lain. Kyosuke Date’s life becomes a waking nightmare as he discovers that his mother was murdered, he is a powerful mutant, and fragments of his sister’s soul have become humanlike creatures called “Flickers.” The Flickers are mercilessly hunted by the crul vice president of an infinitely powerful conglomerate, the Kirihara Group. Kyosuke takes up with the sardonic Shiro Mibu, the sworn enemy of the Kirihara, and is soon battling giant robots and screeching maniacs. Series director Akiyuki Shinbo uses all the latest tricks: rapid-fire editing, weird colors (including blood-red frames), repeated close-ups of crosses and other objects, still frames juxtaposed with battle sequnces, etc. But these flashy visuals can’t disguise the slightness of the familiar story. Rated 16 Up: Considerable violence, grotesqu imagery, profanity, alcohol and tobacco use. –Charles Solomon

Review of Doctor Who - Time-Flight Online

This is a great movie with Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding

Basically it’s about:
All is not well aboard the TARDIS - in an attempt to cheer up Nyssa and Tegan after the recent death of fellow companion Adric, the Doctor plans a trip back to the year 1851 and a visit to the Great Exhibition in London. However, the journey is unexpectedly interrupted and the TARDIS mysteriously appears in Terminal 1 of Heathrow Airport in modern-day London. At the same time, a routine incoming Concorde flight disappears without a trace… Are the two events connected? A second Concorde, carrying the Doctor, his companions and the TARDIS, is dispatched to follow the same flight path as the missing aircraft in an attempt to discover the fate of the passengers. But when this Concorde arrives back at Heathrow, they discover that things are not quite what they appear to be… What sinister force is behind the kidnapping of the Concorde passengers and crew? Is an ancient malevolent power at work, or something with which the Doctor is much more familiar?
